Monk by Qi Baishi, Estimate HK$ 4,000,000-5,000,000

The Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy auction will feature over 300 masterpieces by numerous prominent and important Chinese painters and calligraphers, including Wu Changshuo, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Wu Hufan, Liu Haisu, Wang Junbi, Lin Fengmian, Wu Guanzhong and more. Highlights of the auction will include the much acclaimed: Crossing of Arms by Wu Guanzhong, Monk by Qi Baishi, and Scenery by Lin Fengmian.

To pay tribute to the pioneers of modern art education in Hong Kong, China Guardian (HK) will present a special section “New Asia College – The Art World of Ding Yanyong and Chen Shihwen”, featuring significant works by the two founders of the Fine Arts Programme of New Asia College, including Flowers and Birds, a 23-meter ink scroll painting by Ding Yanyong.

2.  20th Century and Contemporary Chinese Art

Three Nudes on the Beach by Pan Yuliang, Estimate HK$ 6,000,000-100,000,000

With “The Exploration of Western Integration” and “The Post-1989 Contemporary Art Force” as the major themes, the 20th Century and Contemporary Chinese Art auction will feature 30 pieces of modern and contemporary paintings and sculptures including exceptional works by Pan Yuliang, Wu Dayu, Sanyu, Zhu Yuanzhi, Guan Liang, Lin Fengmian, Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-chun, Liu Kuo-sung, Gu Wenda, Yang Jiechang, Li Shan, Huang Gang, Zeng Fanzhi and Wang Guangyi.  Highlights of this auction will include Three Nudes on the Beach by Pan Yuliang, in which the bold use of colour not only reflects the influence of Impressionism but is also a tribute to the women’s passion for life. The piece also features a blend of oriental aesthetics together with characteristics of Postmodernism. The iconic Melody of the Night by Wu Dayu is one of the artist’s most representative abstract masterpieces, in which he used his favorite "Prussian Blue" along with black, green and yellow as his main palette to create a rich display of contrasts and motion.

3. Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art

A Fine and Rare Blue and White Ovoid Vase, Xuande Period (1426-1435),  Estimate HK$ 2,600,000-3,600,000

The department of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art at China Guardian (HK) will offer rare works under the theme “Chinese Ceramics”, consisting of ceramic and jade artifacts, furniture, writing utensils, bronze pieces and Buddha statues among others, with stone statues featuring ornamental works and religious themes. Among the highlights will be the epoch-making and stunningly beautiful vase - blue and white ware of the Xuande reign - considered exemplary among Ming and Qing imperial kilns. The vase’s majestically bright blue, in all its multifarious tones, is one of the hallmarks adding to the elegance of the exquisite piece. Another anticipated highlight is the painstakingly carved jasper brush pot, crafted to whet the Emperor’s aesthetic appetite with its theme, composition and carving, reminiscent of styles found in Chinese painting. Embodying at the same time literati predilection and imperial craftsmanship, this jasper brush pot is truly an exceptional piece of jasper art.

4. Ancient Chinese Bronzes – The Mengdiexuan Collection

A Bronze Ritual Food Vessel and Cover with Gold and Silver Inlay, Estimate HK $3,000,000 to HK$5,000,000

Themed “Ancient Chinese Bronzes – The Mengdiexuan Collection,” most of the auction pieces in this category were previously showcased in the "Ancient Chinese and Ordos bronzes" exhibition in 1990, organised by the Hong Kong Urban Council and the Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong as the first large-scale ancient bronzes exhibition ever held at Hong Kong Museum of Art. Some of the bronze pieces were also exhibited in the "Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth" exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 2002. Among many highlights, the collection will feature a Bronze Ritual Food Vessel and Cover with Gold and Silver Inlay, Ding from the Eastern Zhou or Han Dynasty (4th-2nd century BC). The vessel has a rounded body drawn into a constricted lip, on which sits a shallow domed lid. Inlay transforms this otherwise standard Ding into an exceptional piece, with an outstanding design consisting of three large dragons with interwoven bodies twined around smaller animals. At the centre is a gold inlaid roundel, around which diagonal lines are crossed at right angles by other lines to create an interlaced motif. On the body between the legs, large adjacent pendent heart shapes are outlined. This unique inlaid Ding was deservedly selected to feature on the cover of ‘Ancient Chinese and Ordos Bronzes’.

5. Watches, Jewellery and Jadeite

Vacheron Contantin 250th Anniversary Limited Edition - Les Metiers d’ Art 18K Pink Gold Enamel Watch
Estimate: HK$ 1,000,000-1,200,000

The Watches, Jewellery and Jadeite auction will present 50 luxurious jewellery pieces, featuring a variety of sumptuous precious stones from emerald to diamonds, natural pearls and other coloured gemstones in the form of beads, rings, pendants, necklaces and brooches infused with Chinese traditional elements. The key highlight in this category will be the 250th anniversary limited edition of Vacheron Constantin - Les Metiers d’ Art 18K Pink Gold Enamel Watch. The enameled dial in the watch represents Apollo, God of Sun, riding a Roman Chariot. Featuring exquisite craftsmanship and a seamless marriage of traditional and modern elements, this unique watch is part of a set of four, crafted with different metals - white gold, yellow gold, pink gold and platinum – to represent each season of the year. Production of Les Metiers d’ Art was limited to 12 sets worldwide. Meanwhile, as far as jadeite jewellery is concerned, few can compare with a necklace with beads that are uniform in size, sumptuous in colour, fine in texture and flawless in translucency. Meeting all these prerequisites in the spring sale will be a unique jadeite beads and diamond necklace, consisting of 45 beads with a diameter from 9.5mm to 12.5mm. As the perfect accessory and the height of elegance, the sumptuous necklace will undoubtedly make its wearer the envy of all.
