50th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions to kick off
2018-01-05

2018 is a new start for China Guardian. Our company will usher in its 25th anniversary in 2018. Hence the 50th quarterly auctions, the first auction in 2018, will be a spectacular one. Both at the Convention Center of Beijing International Hotel, the preview exhibitions will be staged from Jan 10 to 12, and auctions from Jan 13 to 14. A total of nearly 3,500 lots of Chinese paintings and calligraphy, porcelain, jade and works of art are included in the auctions.

Promising quarterly auctions

As leading brand of medium-sized auctions in China, quarterly auctions always prioritize academic research and accurate foresight, bringing opportunities and prosperity to the auction market. Being the largest and most authoritative offline trading platform, China Guardian quarterly auctions' principle is to "select small works of great masters and masterpieces from artists of some renown", providing access to the auction market for new collectors. Our consistency and innovation have won us a good reputation and made transaction records. We hope the 50th Quarterly Auctions will be another bellwether for art auction market in the Chinese mainland.

Director and President Ms. Hu Yanyan said: "The 50th Quarterly Auctions will be held in January after the successful autumn auctions, which also mark the beginning of our 25th anniversary. We will still endeavor to provide access to art for the public, inherit and advocate traditional Chinese culture as well as attract more people to join the throng in collecting and auctioning artwork. In that way, art will be more closely related to people's lives and the art auction market will also be more mature."

Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy

Both academic guidance and favorable advantages

The auctions start with the Modern Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy session. It has finely collected and selected the best lots from the same collectors, which can demonstrate their personality and aesthetic taste or the sincere friendship between artists and the collectors. The special section "New Jinling School" has included excellent works of representative artists Qian Songyan, Wei Zixi, Song Wenzhi and Ya Ming, together with superb calligraphy works from Gao Ershi, Lin Sanzhi and Hu Xiaoshi. All the lots of this section are endowed with unique styles and highly worth collecting.

The Contemporary Ink and Modern Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy session will begin with contemporary paintings and calligraphy. Four special sections will present the development trends of contemporary ink and wash paintings in different perspectives. Masterpieces of Zhang Daqian, Huang Binhong, Wu Changshuo, Wang Xuetao, Huang Junbi and other famous artists are laudable modern works. Concerning lots created in the era of the Republic of China, the special section "Beijing and Tianjin School" is a highlight, showing artists' expertise in patterning their works after ancient styles and sketches.

The category Classical Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy has two sessions. Lots of session one are all provided by the same collector. The elaborate Peony and rock by Wang Chengpei in session one is graceful. Session two will continue to present Buddhist paintings of Buddha, Bodhisattvas, arhats and eminent monks. Shakyamuni Buddha and Amitaba Buddha are two prominent lots among paintings related to Buddhist sutras and stories. A special section featuring calligraphy has fully mirrored the trend of rubbings and manuscripts in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
